Singing together as a powerful tool in education
At the University of Stavanger, we worked closely with a group of teachers at an elementary school and a kindergarten. The main purpose of this collaboration was to strengthen teachers’ musical practice and the phenomenon of singing together.
As a result of several workshops and reflection together with teachers, principals, researchers and arts educators, we created this film that documents the powerful effects of singing together. In this film you will meet teachers and principals who talk about how singing together promotes inclusion and belonging, fosters well-being and fun in school learning. Singing together not only affects the children, but also allows teachers to create a more playful and engaged learning environment.
In the film you’ll meet Kirsten Halle, professor of music education, University of Stavanger; Margrethe Hjardeng, headmaster at Madlamark Primary School; Hege Rafaelsen, teacher at Madlamark primary School; Ingvild Totland, teacher at Tjodmarka kindergarten; Ragnhild Eielsen Wiik, director at Tjodmarka kindergarten. All testify about singing together as a powerful tool in education.
